Advising, developing and promoting
Our public service missions
Whilst reinforcing its primary role as a watchdog, a think tank and a lobbying force, the Office de la Mer has also become a co-ordinator of projects in the field in many areas: local development of maritime activities, preservation and enhancement of the marine and undersea heritage, and promoting the sea to an audience of residents and schoolchildren. The Office also runs an information and resource centre devoted to Marseille and the sea, for use by the general public.

The sea is a key factor in sustainable development and a human, social, economic and cultural matter. The Office de la Mer works for the present and the future to ensure that everyone in Marseille and elsewhere will see the Mediterranean as an asset, a strength, and a project, because our common future largely depends on sensible management of the sea.
